Society for physician assistants in pediatrics

Who is SPAP?

The Society for Physician Assistants in Pediatrics (SPAP) is a non-profit specialty organization of the American Academy of Physician Assistants (AAPA). The Society consists of PAs, PA residents and students, as well as affiliate and associate individuals who share a common interest in the art of pediatric medicine. SPAP supports members in promoting high standards in the delivery of pediatric health care and provides the opportunity to network with other PAs and individuals interested in the well being of children.

Our missions

The mission of SPAP is to improve the health care of children by supporting Physician Assistants (PAs) and healthcare teams that provide cost effective, quality care to pediatric patients and by promoting a network for communication, including research and education between providers dedicated to the well-being of children. SPAP will advocate for pediatric patients and their caregivers as well as PAs and other medical providers that care for children.

SPAP's 2019 PA of the Year

The SPAP Board of Directors would like to congratulate Jessica Saint-Paul from California as the winner of SPAP’s 2019 Pediatric PA of the Year! She is an exceptional candidate and has dedicated her 19-year career as a PA to providing comprehensive, quality medical and preventive services for chronically underserved communities. She advocates to decrease the health inequities in the areas of medical and mental health of youth and adolescents in Los Angeles county.

Throughout her career as a PA and Public Health Practitioner, she has continued to demonstrate her passion for advocacy and care for pediatrics and adolescents in her community, some of the highlights include:

In 2005, Ms. Saint-Paul was the founding director for C.H.A.I.N. Reaction, Inc. a non-profit corporation providing case management, life-skills, a furnished transitional housing program for foster care and probation youth.

During her eight years of service at a Federally Qualified Health Center, while providing direct patient care to youth and adolescents at ten area feeder schools, she embarked on one of the largest projects with the Los Angeles Unified School District with the development, implementation, and management of two new school-based wellness centers.

Additionally, she is currently a doctoral student at the University of Lynchburg and has conducted extensive research on adolescent health and medicine, and will be publishing a manuscript on the prevalence of sexually transmitted infections of adolescents in school-based and clinic-based models of care.
