Description
The AAP as strongly endorsed gender affirming care as a necessary part of pediatric medicine. 56 percent of youth who identified as transgender reported thinking about suicide at some point, and 31 percent reported a previous suicide attempt. Children being diagnosed with gender dysphoria has nearly doubled every year since 2017, with social media and political debates putting the issue in the headlines. This talk aims to discuss the definition and diagnosis of gender dysphoria and to provide clinicians with tools for discussions with both patients and caregivers. Cases based on consenting patients and caregivers will be provided to optimize understanding.
