Breast is best—a statement we hear over and over. But do you support this statement? Hopefully so, but maybe not. The 2022 AAP policy statement on breastfeeding is that breastfeeding and human milk are the standards for infant feeding and nutrition and recommends exclusively breastfeeding for approximately 6 months after birth. Join me as we discuss practical ways to advocate for this critical source of nutrition for our patients. Using the mnemonic B.R.E.A.S.T, we will explore the value of lactation education for everyone, review feeding documentation, skills to assess breastfeeding, identify lactation and feeding challenges, and apply a team approach to empower mothers to breastfeed.
