Preceptor Opportunities

Good Afternoon!

My name is Stephanie Fraccola I am pleased to introduce myself as the Clinical Scheduling Manager for the Physician Assistant Studies program at Gardner-Webb University!

At Gardner-Webb University, we are looking for medical professionals willing to serve as role models for our student while providing supervision, guidance and teaching. Targeted areas of student development are history taking, physical examination, and communication skills, physical diagnosis, problem assessment and treatment plan development. Our students are permitted to rotate with MD, Nurse Practitioners, PAs, and other healthcare providers.

Our program is located in rural western North Carolina where there is limited access to Pediatrics, Women’s Health and Mental Health Providers. Due to program grants that have been dispersed in the area, there are even fewer providers and sites that are even potentially able to precept our PA students. The Program is now having to search primarily outside of our local area and into other states and countries to get these required clinical experiences for our students.

Our clinical rotations are either three or six-weeks in length (Pediatrics is a three-week rotation) and are spread throughout three semesters for optimal scheduling ability, not only for the students but the preceptors as well. If helping a PA student feel more comfortable in clinical practice wasn’t enough, GWU offers our preceptors a $100 per week stipend (provided your facility allows you to receive it) for each student precepted.

Thank you again for any assistance you may be able to provide. You can find out more about our program by clicking on the following link: http://gardner-webb.edu/academic-programs-and-resources/colleges-and-schools/health-sciences/schools-and-departments/physician-assistant-studies/index

I have attached a few of the clinical course syllabi so that you are able to see what is required of our students and what expectations we have for them while in the clinical setting. Feel free to contact me directly with any questions or concerns. I look forward to working with you!

Have a great day!

Stephanie Fraccola
